Our Program

Fall

We will begin our fall workouts the week of Labor Day.  Typically we will spend two hours working out on the floor and in the weight room 2 days per week until the beginning of November.  We will also spend one day each week outside conditioning.

Winter

Tryouts typically occur the third week of November.  Once teams are selected our practices begin.  We will practice everyday except for Sundays.  The varsity and junior varsity teams practice after school from 3:00-5:00 p.m. while our level 3 team practices from 5:00-7:00pm.  With basketball season occurring when it does, it runs into Thanksgiving and Christmas break.  Both of these breaks are very important times in our season so we ask that you limit travel as much as possible during these break.  Players will have the Thursday and Friday off each year during Thanksgiving break.  After our last game in December the players will have off until the last week of December when we will conduct practice three times.  Practice officially starts back up just after New Years Day.  During the season our players will enjoy game day dinners provide by our parents and will experience multiple team dinners as a program.  We play in the Jefferson County 4A League.  The junior varsity and level 3 seasons finish at the end of February while the varsity season will finish after the state tournament that begins at the end of February.

Spring

Our spring workouts begin just after our spring break.  We will spend about two hours on the basketball court and weight room two or three times per week throughout the month of April and the beginning of May.

Summer

Summer tryouts traditionally occur the first week of May and occur over two days followed by two mandatory practices.  There are not many practices during this time period but we will spend many mornings and afternoons throughout May and June working out together on skills.  Over the summer we will select a varsity, junior varsity, and freshman team with the possibility of more than one junior varsity and freshman team.  Each team typically plays in a spring/summer league, attend an overnight team, and play in two or three additional tournaments as a team.  Our varsity players work with our youth basketball players during our youth camp that occurs one of the first weeks in June.  In the past we have not set up specific dates for workouts in July and August.

Youth

Our youth teams are organized and run through Dakota Ridge Sports Association (DRSA).  DRSA offers teams for 2nd through 8th graders in recreational and competitive environments.  There are recreational and competitive leagues for each grade level.  5th through 8th grade players have the option to tryout our for the Dakota Ridge feeder teams run though Gold Crown.  These tryouts occur in the middle of September and practices start at the beginning of November.  As of 2014, 2nd-4th graders do not attend tryouts.  5th and 6th graders attend tryouts if they are interested in playing on a Gold Crown team.  All 7th and 8th graders will attend tryouts.  The DRHS coaching staff will give a coaching clinic to our youth coaches and will provide multiple clinics for players in DRSA throughout the season.

The varsity coaching staff and players also conduct other clinics for the youth basketball players.  There is a shooting clinic offered in April each year.  This clinic has 4 one hour sessions that occur one week apart from each other.  At the beginning of June, there is a youth basketball camp that spans four days and goes for three hours each day.  For more information on these, please visit our youth page on this website or visit the DRSA website.  All registrations for these camps and clinics go through the DRSA website.
